De-registration terminates your rights and obligations as a student and member of the University. After passing your final examination and receiving your certificate, you will be de-registered at the end of the semester in which you received your degree documents, without the need to submit a separate application.
The application for de-registration must generally be submitted online via the portal studienservice.ku.de. Students may apply for de-registration at any time, either at the end of the current semester or with immediate effect.
Before de-registration, please verify that you have completed all required coursework in accordance with the examination regulations applicable to you. Since enrollment is mandatory for the submission of each course requirement, you would need to enroll again if it turns out during the certificate application process that you are still missing a course requirement. Apart from the additional effort involved in re-enrolling, problems may arise if you were enrolled in a degree program with restricted admission where places in the degree program are limited. You should also expect delays if, due to an enrollment deadline that has already passed for the new semester, you are only able to re-enroll in the following semester.
If you are planning to undergo de-registration due to a transfer from/to another university or a break in your studies, it is recommended that you always undergo de-registration at the end of the current semester, as this prevents any gaps in insurance coverage (health insurance). You can apply for de-registration at the end of the current semester starting in mid-January (winter semester) or mid-June (summer semester). Once the semester has begun, retroactive de-registration to the end of the previous semester is no longer possible.
After your de-registration, you will still have access to KU.Campus for four months. After that, your user ID will expire and you will no longer be able to register. If you need to register on KU.Campus after your user ID has expired, please contact the KU Computer Center directly with a request to extend your user ID; please use the following e-mail address: it-support@ku.de.
However, under certain circumstances, the University may also initiate de-registration as part of the implementation of the Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act. De-registration is ultimately governed by Article 94 of the Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act; the following lists only the three most common reasons:
If you have already completed one of your degree programs as part of a dual degree program (studying in two programs simultaneously), or if you wish to withdraw from that program for other reasons but remain enrolled in the other program, please submit an application to withdraw from a degree program using the contact form under the category “Withdrawal from Degree Program/Subject.”
