Part-time studies

Some degree programs offer part-time study options. This may allow you to better balance your desired course of study with other commitments, such as work or family. Part-time study results in a lighter weekly workload and thus greater flexibility. Part-time study typically leads to a longer total duration of study, as the course content is spread out over a longer period. Part-time study should not be confused with part-time studies for working professionals, which is a different, specialized form of study.

Common reasons for part-time study include, for example:

  • Balancing work and study: Many students work while studying to support themselves financially or gain professional experience. Part-time study allows them to reduce their workload and better combine their studies with their career.
  • Balancing family and studies: Especially for students with children, part-time study is often the only way to successfully complete a degree, as it offers more flexibility in terms of childcare and scheduling.
  • Financial reasons: Full-time study often involves high costs. Part-time study allows students to work alongside their studies, thereby making it easier to finance their education.
  • Personal workload: Some students feel overwhelmed by the heavy workload of a full-time program or wish to devote more time to other interests. A part-time program can provide relief in such cases.

If your desired degree program is offered on a part-time basis, you can submit an application to study part-time. You can also use the same application to switch to full-time study in your degree program if you are currently enrolled part-time.
