Administrative matters on your path to studying

In order to start your studies at the KU, you must first enroll with us. Please note: Depending on which degree program you have chosen, you may need to submit a successful application before enrolling, as there are

  1. degree programs with open admission, which you can enroll in straight away,
  2. degree programs with admission restrictions, for which you must first submit an application, and,
  3. degree programs with a prior  aptitude test, that also require an application.

For information on all degree programs and subjects and the respective requirements, please refer to the information on our study offer website or ask our KUala bot.

You must apply for degree programs with restricted admission and for degree programs with an aptitude test. This applies to all Master's degree programs, as it must be checked whether you meet the requirements (usually at least a completed Bachelor's degree). However, it also applies to some, albeit few, Bachelor's degree programs.

If your application is successful after the allocation process, you will be admitted to the KU and receive a letter of admission, which you can then use to enroll.

For degree programs without admission restrictions (usually Bachelor's degree programs and most teacher training programs with State Examinations), you can enroll directly without applying.

Where have you obtained your university entrance qualification?

When applying for a degree program and enrolling, it is decisive where you obtained your university entrance qualification (high school leaving certificate, e.g. Abitur, etc.).

If you obtained your university entrance qualification outside of Germany (or within Germany at an international school), some additional regulations and conditions apply for so-called “Bildungsausländerinnen und Bildungsausländer”.

If you have a vocational qualification, you may also be able to study as a professionally qualified person under certain conditions.
