Applicants with non-EU university entrance qualification

Additional regulations on application for international students

Certain specific requirements and conditions apply for international applicants (and German citizens who hold an international high school diploma or Master's entrance qualification). In addition, all general regulations regarding application and enrollment at the KU apply.

With an international university entrance qualification, you may apply only for the first semester of the program you have chosen.

PLEASE NOTE: Prospective students with an international university entrance qualification must always submit an application for their desired degree program. This also applies to degree programs without admission restriction. You can find the respective application deadline directly on the relevant English-language details page in the KU study offer.

Preliminary check for non-EU applicants

For some of our degree programs, the preliminary check of application documents from international (non-EU) applicants is conducted by the service provider uni-assist e.V.

uni-assist reviews the documents you submit (e.g. university entrance qualification or first professional degree — also known as Master’s entrance qualification, minimum grade, etc.) for compliance with formal requirements and forwards your application to the KU after successful preliminary check.

Application via KU portal

For most degree programs at the KU, applications are submitted directly through the KU’s own application and enrollment portal. Please check the program page for the application deadlines applicable to your desired degree program. The deadlines for international students are stated on the English-language page.

In the following cases, an application is required to participate in your desired degree program:

  1. For all degree programs with limited admission
  2. For all subjects with limited admission,
  3. for all Master's degree programs, and
  4. for all applications with a foreign university entrance qualification, as the admission requirements for open-admission subjects must also be checked for these applicants.

Application via uni-assist

Who must apply through uni-assist?

Applicants with an international university entrance qualification (for Bachelor’s programs) or a first professional degree (e.g., Bachelor’s degree; applications for graduate studies) from outside the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, or Norway who are interested in one of the degree programs listed below must apply via uni-assist:

  • Business Administration (Master’s), including all specializations offered at the KU
  • Data Science (Bachelor’s and Master’s)
  • Business & Psychology (Master’s)

If this applies to you, please apply exclusively through uni-assist and not additionally through the KU enrollment portal! Once your documents are submitted, uni-assist requires approximately 4–6 weeks to process them. After successful review, uni-assist forwards the data to the KU. You will then automatically receive an e-mail with the login credentials for the KU portal.
