Elena Zgurscaia studies in the 3rd semester of the Master's program in International Relations

Elena, who dreams of a world where everyone can live in safety and without fear, has a clear goal in mind: “I want to help people in need and serve as a bridge between cultures.” Since her home country, Ukraine, is at war, this is her heartfelt wish. To make this a reality, she is pursuing a career in an international organization or in diplomacy: she hopes to be able to support peacebuilding and international cooperation in this way.

Based on her interest in global political, economic, cultural, and social contexts, Elena deliberately chose the Master’s degree program in International Relations at the KU. With a Bachelor’s degree in Translation Studies, she has already acquired linguistic and cultural knowledge; now she wants to further her education through the Master’s degree program, particularly in political and economic fields.

Elena is particularly fascinated by the fact that the degree program imparts knowledge from many different fields. The opportunity to choose from a broad spectrum of topics — ranging from History to politics to business and economics — makes the program particularly appealing to her. The chance to do volunteer work also contributes to her enthusiasm for the program: In addition to her studies, Elena is involved with the Maltese in a project that supports Ukrainian refugees in finding jobs in Germany.

In the future, Elena wants to help people in need even more “and serve as a bridge between cultures.” The Master's degree program in International Relations is a crucial step for her toward realizing this goal. Through its blend of theoretical knowledge, practical experience, and an internship, the program comprehensively prepares Elena for her career plans. She hopes to gain a wealth of knowledge so she can serve as a role model for social commitment both professionally and in her family life.
