The KU tries to give all its students the chance to study unhampered by barriers. We recommend students with impairments or chronic illnesses get information on services and possibilities as well as on any possible restrictions.
However, challenges may also arise off campus. Therefore, we have compiled a few general helpful tips for students in Eichstätt below:
Accommodation
There is a limited selection of fully accessible housing in Eichstätt. Wheelchair-accessible housing is available through the St. Gundekar Foundation in the Kardinal-Schröffer-Haus residence on Seidlkreuz.
In the Schottenau residence and in many shared apartments, you will find accommodation within walking distance of the University. However, these accommodations are generally designed for people who are able to walk only.
Public transport
Bus services within Eichstätt and Ingolstadt are in a good state of development and suitable for people with disabilities.
However, Eichstätt train station is currently not wheelchair accessible. In some cases, it is possible to take a detour via Dollnstein or Ingolstadt (see information provided in the "How to find us" section on our main website ). Please note that most public transportation within Eichstätt only runs until early evening and only on Monday through Saturday.
Accessible campus
In recent years, the KU has implemented a number of different reconstruction measures to make the campus more accessible. As large parts of our campus are historic, not all buildings are accessible for wheelchair users.
We have also not been able to implement an orientation system for blind people. A mobility training in all the major buildings is strongly recommended.
If necessary, seminar rooms may be swapped to ensure accessibility. For this, please contact raumfragen(at)ku.de. As a rule, there is disabled parking at the KU. For detailed information, please see the campus map. (The map indicating disabled parking spaces will be uploaded soon.)
Internships and career entry
Important information and contact points on internships and careers can be found here (in German).
Campus life and leisure
During the day, student life largely takes part on campus. Evening activities might not be accessible to wheelchair users, we therefore recommend you check the conditions beforehand.
Studying abroad
A semester abroad is a possibility open to all students, whether you have a disability or not. Study-abroad programs often cover the additional costs you might have due to your impairment. If this applies to you, please contact the International Office.
