Application/admission for higher semesters

Information:

At the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt, you can also enroll for a higher semester of an offered degree program. If it is a degree program with restricted admission, please see information on applying for degree programs with admission restrictions below.

If you are or were already enrolled in another degree program at another university or at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt and have completed coursework and examinations, enrollment for a higher semester is not always recommended for these reasons alone. Should you have study and examination achievements from your previous studies credited to the new program, you will be upgraded according to the skills actually brought into the new degree program. The upgrading in the course of the recognition of study achievements may better reflect the part of the studies already completed and is also more transparent to the funding institutions. For more information on recognition and crediting of study achievements, please see below.

If you are unsure which semester you should enroll in, feel free to contact our Student Advisory Service who are happy to help.

Degree programs with admission restrictionsApplication deadline for the summer semester is January 15 and for the winter semester July 15. The portal for online applications for the summer semester is open from December 01 and for the winter semester from May 01. The allocation of study places for higher semesters in degree programs with restricted admission is carried out according to Section 35 of the Regulation on Admission to Higher Education. Please refer to the information sheet on applying for degree programs with admission restrictions.
In case of degree programs with restricted admission, it is only possible to determine whether study places are available or not once the deadline for re-registration has passed.
The enrollment deadlines can be found in the respective notifications of admission!

Recognition and crediting of already completed study and examination achievements

After having enrolled, you can request that study and examination achievements that you have already completed in a previous degree program are credited to your current program. Information on the recognition process is available here.

Each successful recognition of study and examination achievements of previous studies of more than 15 ECTS credits results in the student being enrolled in a higher semester of the program. The final allocation to a semester of the program is based on the total number of all credited ECTS credits and is carried out in the steps specified for the respective degree program.

Important information! - Please be careful with an unrealistic self-assessment

If the semester of the program to which you are assigned on the basis of the recognition you have applied for differs from the semester for which you have enrolled, the following regulation applies: If recognition results in being assigned to a semester that is higher than your requested semester for the program, you will be enrolled in the semester of the program corresponding to the recognition. If the recognition results in being assigned to a semester that is below the semester you applied for, you will remain in the semester for which you have originally enrolled. Going back to a lower semester of the program is not possible.

Please note that any problems that may arise in the course of your further studies due to an unrealistic self-assessment upon enrollment for a higher semester lie in your own responsibility.

Important information! - Recognition for enrollment in a higher semester

If students apply for recognition to be enrolled in a higher semester, there is the risk that the maximum permissible length of study will already be exceeded after the recognized examination achievements have been credited, or that successful completion of the program is no longer possible in the remaining study time until the maximum permissible length of the program is reached. After exceeding the maximum duration of study, the respective degree program is deemed to be failed.
