Health Insurance

Prospective students must prove their insurance status to the University for enrollment. Please therefore request proof of your insured status from a German statutory health insurance fund. You no longer need to submit a paper or PDF certificate!

The statutory health insurance provider will send proof of your insurance status directly to the University electronically. Private health insurance companies cannot confirm the insurance status.

Please state our sender number H0000834.

The University will also confirm your enrollment electronically to the relevant health insurance provider as soon as enrollment is complete.

I am insured with a German statutory health insurance provider

Please ask your health insurance provider for proof of your insurance status. Your health insurance provider will then send the data directly to us exclusively electronically (notification M10).

I am privately insured

Even if you are not covered by statutory health insurance, we require a notification (M10) from a German statutory health insurance provider. Proof issued by private health insurance companies is not sufficient.

If you have already taken out statutory health insurance in Germany previously, please ask your last statutory health insurance provider for an exemption notification from compulsory insurance.

If you have never had statutory health insurance in Germany, you can apply for exemption from any German statutory health insurance provider.

I am not subject to compulsory insurance due to my age

Nevertheless, please contact a German health insurance provider and have them send us proof of your insurance status.

I am an international student or insured abroad

If you have never had statutory health insurance in Germany or are still insured abroad, please register with any German statutory health insurance provider and ask them to send a corresponding notification (M10) to the KU.

More information on health insurance

If changes occur during your studies (e.g. change of health insurance company, termination of the insurance relationship, late payment of health insurance contributions), notifications are automatically sent between the health insurance companies and the University. This can also lead to you not being re-registered or de-registered if no corresponding notification of health insurance is available.
