KU members and users with a library card can access the e-media service at terminals at all University Library locations.
For accessing licensed electronic media offered by the University Library Eichstätt-Ingolstadt from outside the campus network the following authentication options are available :
KU members can access restricted library resources (e-books, e-journals and databases) via a VPN connection (Virtual Private Network). Access authorization is usually checked via the IP address of the requesting computer. In order to integrate your own computer or mobile device into the university network and thus be able to use restricted services linked to our IP address range, it is necessary to temporarily assign the IP address of the KU to your device using a VPN client.
Software, configuration files and instructions for the VPN client are provided by the University Computer Center.
You can check your connection here »
Some providers support external access for University members via the Shibboleth authentication service. Access via Shibboleth works on any PC or mobile device with an internet connection; a VPN connection is not necessary. All you need is the login data of your KU user ID.
On the website of the respective provider, please follow the link leading to the login screen for users of an institution. From the drop-down list, please select the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. You will then be redirected to the registration page of the KU Eichstätt-Ingolstadt, where you can identify as an authorized user with your KU user data. You can now make use of different electronic resources of different providers without having to authenticate again.
For selected databases and e-books, external users with a library card have the option of logging in with their library user number and password.
Access is enabled via the KU’s HAN server (Hidden Automatic Navigator). The access link (HAN link) for this will be displayed in the database information system (DBIS) under the access options when the requested electronic resource is available. Electronic journals in the Electronic Journals Library (EZB) are accessed automatically via the HAN server.
