Classical Philology looks back on a long tradition. Its cornerstones are the study of Greek and Latin literature and its contexts from antiquity to the present day, approached from different perspectives:
The spectrum of texts is extremely broad: in addition to literary works, it also includes philosophical, rhetorical, and historical works. Since classical philology deals intensively with texts, it is considered a branch of literary studies. A central concern is to make ancient literature accessible to each new generation in all its diversity and with its unique character. For a deeper understanding, knowledge of the related disciplines of archaeology and ancient history is necessary.
