Chair of New Testament Studies

[Translate to English:] Neues Testament Griechisch

New Testament Studies focuses on the texts of the New Testament, their historical setting, and the diverse historical, cultural and religious contexts that shaped their origins in the ancient Mediterranean world. The aim is to understand these texts within the context of their own time and to explore both their theological concepts and the history of their origins.

Our discipline has an interdisciplinary focus: We employ historical-critical and narratological methods and are constantly engaging with related disciplines both within and outside theology. In our research and teaching, we combine scholarly curiosity with an openness to new perspectives, inviting students and interested members of the public alike to discover the world of the New Testament and to join us in a thorough exploration of the origins of early Christianity.
