Creative Industries and Ecosystem Research

Successful tourism is embedded in urban features and can stand out in global competition and carve out USPs through creative and innovative offerings and intelligent destination development. In cities, creative minds and businesses form what is now a guiding culture of innovation that has established itself both in the design of urban spaces and in the offerings of tourism businesses. In the sense of Cultural Entrepreneurship or Creative Industries, the research at the Chair of Tourism could accompany the discourse towards Business and Entrepreneurial Ecosystems, which bring a stronger regional view of entrepreneurial activity to the fore.

Abstract
Growing urban areas are facing an increased complexity of coordination and sustainable management whereby the handling of the interests of businesses, residents and tourists demands increased flexibility and openness. Such challenges are partly addressed by the concept of an Entrepreneurial Ecosystem. The idea of an Entrepreneurial Destination also adds the perspective of living and leisure and serves therefore as an overarching concept that defines economic roles and activities by highlighting urban attractiveness and the interplay of the abovementioned stakeholders.

The conducted case study of Munich aims to explore the interconnectedness of work, life and leisure in an urban ecosystem. To do so, 17 semi-structured interviews are processed using the GABEK® method.

Results indicate that residents, entrepreneurs and tourists in Munich benefit greatly from the high attractiveness caused by the interplay and interaction of those groups. Initiatives involving new concepts like coliving, coworking and coexperience have emerged in Munich with the main strength to extended networking and communication of stakeholders.

This paper contributes to open the sector- and stakeholder-specific view and to regard urban development as a multidisciplinary approach, which combines entrepreneurship, changing social life concepts, participation and sustainability of regions.

Abstract
This paper deals with the assumption that creativity is a necessary catalyst for the development of innovation and competitiveness, as well as the quality of life in urban areas. The hitch here is also the problem: how is it possible to measure or ascertain all of the variables which help to determine the term 'creativity'? Within this study the authors have created two case studies, both of which have been heavily influenced by the automotive industry. One of the cities, Graz, was recently awarded the title 'City of Design' while the other, Ingolstadt, is still attempting to implement an atmosphere of creative thinking. These two extreme cases were analysed by a qualitative survey with the help of GABEK®. This method is used to gain new insights into situations and processes. In summary, it can be said that industry can act as an incubator, but the location must assume the notion of 'being creative' and implement it within their policies.

Abstract
In recent years increased attention has been paid to the role of culture and creativity as significant factors influencing economic development. Another crucial phenomenon shaping the economy is the great importance of regionalism. Culture, creativity and regionalism seem to facilitate coping with the troubles of our times in a better way. This paper aims to contribute to a better understanding of the ways culture and creativity influence the building of a regional innovation system. A review of crucial literature considering the regional innovation system and the role of culture and creativity in the economic development is provided. The conclusion from qualitative research suggests that the significance of creativity in the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region is widely acknowledged and is an attempt to exploit this finding.

Abstract
For the transmission of implicit knowledge, personal interaction is needed. This takes place within a spatial context. A region serves as a sourcing platform for knowledge services. Using an empirical investigation in the Ingolstadt region, this paper demonstrates which qualities are common to interactions between innovative businesses, and which resources can be exchanged as a result of these relationships. Through the identification of network gaps or strategic network positions, the paper also provides policy recommendations for regional management.

Abstract

Abstract:

Abstract:
The aim of this paper is an analysis of the role of power of place for cultural entrepreneurs: how do they decide where they want to live and work, what factors influence their decision process and which conditions need to be fulfilled? The paper starts with a literature review in which the concept of the Creative Class (Florida,. 2002) and the term cultural entrepreneur will be defined and explained. In a second step a closer look will be taken at the concept of place and how it influences location decisions. The research questions for this study as well as its methodology will be derived and the results of 16 in-depth interviews within the region of Ingolstadt, South Germany, be presented. The paper concludes with the limitation of this study as well as an outlook for future research.
