Soil is a vital resource for humanity, but it is endangered by overuse and improper use. The removal of soil by flowing water and wind (“soil erosion”) is a so-called “creeping natural hazard.”
The field of “Soil Geography/Soil Erosion” at the KU, which was established in April 2017, deals with the formation and structure of soils in teaching and research, with a particular focus on the measurement and modeling of soil erosion.
The subject area is part of the Faculty of Mathematics and Geography at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt, and has been independently represented since the 2018 winter semester by: Dr. Peter Fischer.
