Overview of the entire introductory and training offer of the University Library.


User ID
The user ID is issued on presentation of the ID card or passport (with proof of residence) at the lending desk of the Main Library in Eichstätt and the lending desk in the Branch Library for Economics Ingolstadt.
The user ID without additional copying and printing function is issued free of charge.
A user card with copying and printing function is issued for € 4.50.

Borrowing books is only possible subject to presentation of a valid original user ID (we cannot accept copies).

We kindly ask you, in your own interest, to notify the University Library of any loss of your user ID or any changes to your address immediately.

Pupils and users who are not a member of the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt can click here to apply for their user ID in advance by using an online form. You will be notified by e-mail as soon as your user ID is ready for collection at the lending desk in Eichstätt or Ingolstadt. The user ID will be available for collection at the lending desk for a maximum period of four weeks.

Library users who are underage (admission is possible from 16 years) require their parents’ declaration of consent .

For students of the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt (KU), the student ID will also serve as library user ID. This user ID is valid for one semester respectively. Details on the validity of your user ID will be posted on the notice board. KU students also have to report a loss of the user ID or change of address to the Student Office.


Loan collections 

The following collections are available for loan:


Collections in the closed stacks, which are marked as “available for order” (“bestellbar”) in OPAC (Location marks 00, 01, 03, 05, 06, 09, 23)

Collections in the teaching and school book collection (Location marks 16, 17 and 47)



Books from the closed stacks of the Main Library must be ordered via OPAC. After approx. 30 minutes, the books will be available for collection at the lending desk. If you do not wish to collect ordered books immediately, they will be held ready for you for two weeks. 
You can collect the books on presentation of your user ID.


The following collections are not available for loan:


Reading room collections (Reference collections)

Items which are older than 100 years

Items in bad condition

Magister, admission and Diplom theses



These items are only available in the reading room.


Reference collection
As a rule, books which are available in the reading rooms (except for the teaching and school book collection) are not available for loan and can only be used in the reading room. However, items from the reference collections are available for loan in the context of the short-term and vacation loans (subject to exceptions; please also cf. loan periods").


Media (microforms, electronic and audiovisual media)
Media are kept in the respective departmental libraries (Teilbibliothek, TB), depending on the disciplines/subjects in which they are used, or in the Main Library (Zentralbibliothek, ZB). They are not available for loan. You can use these media at the respective location of the University Library.

Volumes of journals (bound): 2 weeks


Reference collections (= reading room collections)
Reading room collections (to the exclusion of volumes of journals and special stocks, such as bibliographies, dictionaries, media or similar) may be available for loan in the following cases:


Short-term loan:
overnight (Eichstätt: 6.00 p.m. - 10.00 a.m.)
for the weekend (Eichstätt: Friday, 1.00 p.m. to Monday, 10.00 a.m.)
Exceptions: Parents of children of up to three years of age can already make use of the “overnight loan” from 3.00 p.m. subject to presentation of a “Haushaltsbescheinigung” (confirmation of members in the household) certifying a common household with the child.

Vacation loans: during the lecture-free period; such periods are posted on the notice board and on the University Library website. Loan period: 4 weeks.
Extension and reservation is not possible.
Please note: The Branch Library for Economics in Ingolstadt does not offer vacation loans.

Lending subject area items
Lecturers may borrow books from the reference collection for three months. If required, users may have the library order the books for inspection.


Teaching and school book collection


Items from the teaching and school book collection are available for loan for 4 weeks respectively.


Preliminary reminder
Five days before expiry of the loan period, all users who have registered their e-mail address in the loan system will receive an automatic preliminary reminder for timely return of the borrowed items. It is every user’s individual responsibility to effect any possible extensions via OPAC themselves. The preliminary reminder is only sent by e-mail.
This service is provided without liability and does not release you from your payment obligation if you exceed the loan period. This shall also apply if you did not receive a preliminary reminder due to technical reasons.


Extension of the loan period
You have the possibility to extend your loan period for items from the closed stacks and for the teaching and school book collection (up to 5 times) as well as for books ordered via interlibrary loan (up to 2 times), provided that no other user has reserved the item. The loan period will be extended by two weeks respectively for volumes of journals and by four weeks respectively for books. 
You are responsible for effecting extensions via OPAC in a timely manner (from 1 week before expiry of the loan period). If you are unable to effect the extension yourself in exceptional cases, please contact the lending or information desk. Unfortunately, we are unable to process extension requests made by phone. However, you have the possibility to submit your extension requests in writing (letter or e-mail  ub-benutzung(at) to the lending desk. When submitting such requests, please always state your user ID and the item number of the books for which you would like to extend the loan period.


Overdue fines
We urgently ask you to observe the relevant loan periods, as there will be a reminder fee in case of overdue items. 
If you receive a chargeable reminder, this also means that you will no longer be able to order or borrow books or extend the loan period for borrowed items.

Upon receipt of the 4th reminder, you will be excluded from use of the University Library.

As soon as you have returned the overdue items and paid the fines, you will be readmitted for use. Please provide proof of payment of the reminder fees by submitting a payment receipt (carbon copy of the bank transfer form or copy of the bank statement) to the lending desk at the Main Library or Branch Library in Ingolstadt.
