Publication guidance

In the process of publishing a work, many questions arise: from the basic decision of which form of publication to choose, to the choice of a journal or a publishing house and questions on open access publishing and visibility of research achievements, to legal issues and to funding.

We will give you general information on this range of topics and offer independent, publisher-neutral advice on your publication options - whether you decide to publish in print or electronically, as a monograph or as an essay.

Our services and technical infrastructure will support you in the publication of your work. You can publish doctoral and post-doctoral theses on our publication server KU.opus. The publication server KU.edoc is the central tool for scientific publications by members of the University. The media server KU.media allows you to manage and present visual media.

We provide you with different options for financing the publication of your scientific articles, for example through the publication fund payrolled by the DFG and the KU as well as through transformative agreements with commercial publishers of journals.

Through a cooperation with the Wissenschaftliche Buchgesellschaft (wbg), we can now also offer you the option of combining classic print publications such as monographs, (edited) collections of articles, or series of papers with a low-cost open access publication, which is often what third-party funders expect of you. It is our concern to give you the benefits of both channels of publication - print and open access publication. For KU scientists, this cooperation means getting advice and support from an experienced partner - from editing to the professional marketing of an established publishing house.
