Guest lecture by Dr Monika Wünnemann (Head of Tax and Financial Policy Department BDI) on Monday, 13.01.2025

Exciting practical insights into current tax and fiscal policy: Many thanks to Dr Monika Wünnemann (Head of Tax and Fiscal Policy) from the Federation of German Industries (BDI) for her interesting guest lecture at the WFI in January 2025.

The Federation of German Industries (BDI), as an independent organisation representing the interests of numerous industrial sectors in society and science, not only stands for an objective and fair discussion culture, but also highlights the effects of economic policy on companies and society. Dr Wünnemann explained the specific areas of activity, which, in addition to statements, contributions to specialist literature, presentations and newsletters to members, include regular hearings in the Finance Committee as well as internal exchange rounds with the BMF/BMWK/MdB.

Dr Wünnemann also explained the tax policy challenges facing BDI member companies. In addition to domestic aspects such as high corporate taxation, the high tax and contribution burden on employees and the declining attractiveness of Germany as an investment location, companies are also confronted with increasing regulation at international and EU level. She outlined the concrete positions that the BDI would like to implement in the interests of its members. The BDI is also very interested in promoting digitalisation and the use of AI in tax law. At the end of her presentation, Dr Wünnemann analysed the election manifestos of the individual parties in the area of tax and financial policy with a view to the upcoming federal elections in February 2025.
