Narrating Europe (anew) Narrative and performative (Re-)Constructions of a Europe in Crisis
2nd Conference on a Performative Political Theology for Europe
1st - 3rd of July 2021
Europe is in a deep crisis. Between the "apolitical" gesture of a government „without-alternative“ in a state of emergency and protest movements that resort to enemy images and conspiracy theories, to identitarian strategies and populism, the question of a political renewal of Europe is coming to a head.
Which narratives and symbolic stagings constitute the public space in Europe? Can the loaded name "Europe" point beyond colonial and imperial logic?
The conference is dedicated to narratives and processes with which Europe is described, staged or criticised. Re- and de-constructions of Europe will be examined in terms of their political and theological dimensions.
The conference will take place in a hybrid form. The language is German and English.
