When: 30. November, 17 Uhr

In this panel discussion we travel through time to show the success story of the partnership between the KU and Jesuit Worldwide Learning: We begin with a vision which recognises the hunger for knowledge of young talented students at the margins, for instance, of young people in refugee camps, or rural areas in underprivileged countries. Dr. Mary McFarland, the co-founder and past President/ International Director of Jesuit Worldwide Learning (JWL) Higher Education at the Margins, is one of the visionaries and KU has the honour of welcoming her as she talks about the initial intentions of this work. Next, we ask why it is important to help the students at the margins to facilitate good learning in their communities. Our honoured guest, Prof. em. Dr. Tom McFarland, who developed the Blended Learning Course “Learning Facilitator”, will discuss the initial spark that led him to develop the course, and introduce us to its content. In the next phase of our journey, we will hear about how the KU stepped in to coordinate and teach the developed courses. Dr. Marina Tsoi, who is project coordinator and lecturer at KU, will speak about the impact these courses have – a real success story. Finally, Prof. Dr. Barbara Meyer will outline the vision for the development of further Education Courses at KU, which will help to meet the needs of students at the margins even better. Your guide through the evening will be Prof. Dr. Rowena Roppelt. We welcome you to this journey and look forward to discussion with you at its conclusion.
