John of Damascus and Islam
John of Damascus (c. 650 - before 754) is the first Christian author to deal theologically with the new religion of Islam. He also became one of the earliest witnesses to the Qur'anic text. His judgement on Islam, Muhammad and the Qur'an has a decisive influence on all later authors.
