New Master’s program in Taxation offers interdisciplinary perspectives

The KU’s new Master’s degree program in Taxation which will be launched in this year’s winter semester at its business and economics faculty in Ingolstadt (WFI) offers specialized training in the field of taxation. The four-semester curriculum combines business, law and economic points of view on the topic surrounding taxation. Amongst others, students learn how taxes can influence company decisions and how tax policy-making can be developed. The theoretical content of the program is always connected to current research methods. With several in-depth courses on tax law, the degree program also offers a comprehensive foundation for preparing for the tax consultant examination.

In addition to advanced courses in the field of taxation, students can choose at least one minor in order to tailor their studies to their desired future careers. The minor “Digitization and Digital Businesses” responds to increasing digitization processes in businesses and tax consultancy, while the “Quantitative Methods” module prepares students for scientific work approaches in the field of taxation. Furthermore, students can choose between “Accounting & Auditing” and “Business Law” as additional minors. Overall, graduates of the degree program qualify for a profession in tax consultancy or tax departments of companies as well as for working in ministries, financial administration or international organizations. Renowned partners from the industry and practice offer valuable insight into the different fields in courses and guest lectures. One of the lecturers is Dr. Stefan Kusterer (Senior Partner at the auditing company Warth & Klein Grant Thornton), who emphasizes the importance of this new program: “The market is definitely in need for the degree program in Taxation, which is now successfully being implemented by the KU with its excellent offer in the areas of law and economics – a truly distinguishing combination.”

Thanks to collaborations with leading companies in the tax consultancy business and other branches of industry, the KU is able to offer excellent prospects when it comes to finding internships and starting a career in Germany or abroad. In addition, students can spend up to two semesters abroad at one of 90 partner institutions to gather experience in an international context.

In order to enroll for the Master’s degree program in Taxation, candidates have to hold a first qualifying degree or first state examination in business administration, economics, law, government and political sciences or related degree programs.
