Representatives of the University of Notre Dame visit the KU

A delegation from the University of Notre Dame visited the KU. During their time in Eichstätt, the three members of the renowned American university met various representatives of the KU, including the president, Prof. Dr. Gabriele Gien, and the vice president for international affairs, Prof. Dr. Klaus Stüwe. The aims of their visit were to work on preparations for collaborative research in the field of flight and migration, and to strengthen the partnership between the two universities.

The three researchers from Notre Dame plan to collect data in Italy, Austria, and Germany on whether and to what extent there are differences between Catholics, Protestants, members of other religious communities, and people with no faith with regard to their willingness to help refugees. The KU will support them with their research in Germany. Prof. Dr. Klaus Stüwe and Prof. Dr. Klaus-Dieter Altmeppen from the KU’s Center for Flight and Migration met with the visitors to discuss this topic.

All three guests are members of Notre Dame’s Keough School of Global Affairs. Reverend Robert Dowd is an associate professor of political science and director of the Ford Family Program in Human Development Studies and Solidarity. Ilaria Schnyder von Wartensee, who is originally from Switzerland, is a research assistant professor at the Kellog Institute of International Studies, while Austrian Clemens Sedmak is a professor of social ethics at the Keough School of Global Affairs and the Center for Social Concerns at Notre Dame.

The University of Notre Dame is located in South Bend, Indiana, and has around 12,000 students. It is rated among the top 15 universities in the USA in various rankings and is the country’s most prestigious Catholic university.
