Aspects of Language Anxiety in Turkish Learners of English

Abstract:

Research in foreign language learning reveals that language anxiety has been very crucial in the second language acquisition process. It can be found in the literature that having language anxiety or especially speaking anxiety in a foreign language has been one of the major problems in accomplishing a language goal. Therefore, this planned study aims to analyze the current literature on language anxiety of Turkish students specifically and the recent proposal aims to show the main causes and effects of learning anxiety of Turkish learners of English who reside in Turkey and Germany. Cultural differences and the dynamics of the education system will also be taken into consideration. It is planned to clarify the aspects of having language anxiety and online learning possibilities for changing students’ language anxiety by creating a social platform that enables the participant to perform the speaking activity without hesitating to make mistakes. As a methodology, the Solomon-experimental oriented design will be implemented for quantitative data and two semi-structured interviews will be performed with the selected participants to gather qualitative data by using the method of the in-depth questions.
