From the page to the stage; the potential of picture book dramatization in the development of oral skills of young learners of English

Abstract:

Both the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and the Primary School English Curriculum in Baden-Württemberg place a strong emphasis on the development of communicative competences, particularly speaking skills. However, the acquisition of speaking skills is a process which takes time and benefits from varied and targeted practise. This study quantitatively and qualitatively investigates how the combined use of picture books and drama activities, including a short playscript, can be used in a fun, learner-centred and age-appropriate way. The goal of the project is to help learners in the fourth class target specific word classes missing from their speech, improve their oral skills, and improve their confidence levels.
