Fairtrade University

The Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt has been recognized as a Fairtrade University for several years, thereby visibly committing itself to a globally responsible and socially just university culture. Fair trade is not only discussed theoretically at the KU but is actively practiced in the University’s day-to-day life: Fair-trade products are regularly offered in the University’s canteen and cafeteria, and care is taken to provide fair-trade catering at meetings and official events as well. Staff members can easily purchase fair-trade certified products through the internal ordering system.

In addition, courses, panel discussions, and campaigns are held regularly to address issues of fair trade, decent working conditions, and sustainable consumer behavioral patterns. The KU’s Green Office initiates and supports many of these activities, thereby creating opportunities for student engagement and participatory sustainability education. Even beyond it's campus, the KU is actively involved in the Fairtrade Town of Eichstätt network and works closely with local stakeholders to promote fair and sustainable development in the community.

This commitment to Fairtrade is thus an integral part of the KU’s comprehensive understanding of sustainability, as the university views social responsibility as an integral part of its educational mission.
