  • Recording the milestones of the Roman imperial roads in the province of Lusitania

Since the publication of CIL Volume II by A. Hübner (1869), no comprehensive study of the milestones from Lusitania has been presented. In line with contemporary editions, the miliaria will not be edited in isolation, but will be examined in the context of all sources relevant to viae publicae. Such a project also promises new insights into Roman urbanism in the west of the Iberian Peninsula.

  • Biography of Emperor Nero

There are numerous biographies of Nero. As a rule, they either paint a picture of a despot (arsonist of Rome, persecutor of Christians, matricide, etc.) or attempt to relativize the sometimes bizarre actions of the Princeps as distortions of hostile historiography.

This biography of Nero does not seek to follow the usual interpretations or to treat the emperor as one of many actors in Roman history. Instead, it focuses consistently on the person himself, painting a picture of a Princeps who was immature, contradictory, and at times overwhelmed.
