Students with children may be eligible for additional financial support under the Erasmus+ programme for study and traineeship periods abroad. This support may be provided either as a financial top-up to the regular Erasmus+ grant or through the reimbursement of additional costs actually incurred (real-cost funding). KU staff members may also apply for real-cost funding for Erasmus+-funded training activities and teaching assignments abroad.
As a general rule, the child must accompany the student or staff member during the Erasmus+ mobility period abroad. Additional funding is available regardless of the number of accompanying children and may cover, for example, extra accommodation or childcare costs. As real-cost funding requires a separate application and supporting documentation for the additional expenses incurred, interested students and staff members are encouraged to contact the International Office as early as possible before the start of their mobility.
These additional funding opportunities aim to enable students with family responsibilities to gain international experience during their studies and to facilitate staff participation in training and professional development activities, as well as teaching assignments abroad. At the same time, they are intended to offset potential financial disadvantages arising from family responsibilities in connection with a stay abroad.
