Short Description
The Pre-Semester Intensive German Course is designed for international students whose native language is not German and who wish to prepare specifically for their studies at KU. The course takes place before the semester begins and offers intensive language instruction at different proficiency levels.
The course is modularized, awarded with 5 ECTS credits, and may be included in the Learning Agreement depending on the study program. It is suitable for both exchange students and international students enrolled in English-taught degree programs who wish to develop or strengthen their German language skills.
Course Dates in the Academic Year 2025/2026
Winter Semester 2025/26: September 22 – October 10, 2025
Summer Semester 2026: March 23 – April 11, 2026

Course Structure and Recognition
The Pre-Semester Intensive German Course is modularized. The individual course levels are listed as modules in KU Campus and may, depending on the respective study program, be included in the Learning Agreement. This particularly facilitates recognition of the course credits at the students’ home universities.
Course Levels
German A1.1, A2.1, B1.1, B2.1
If required, a course at level C1.1 may also be offered.
Course Locations
The A1.1 course usually takes place in Ingolstadt.
All other courses are offered in Eichstätt or Ingolstadt, depending on organizational possibilities.
As accommodation for international students is usually available only from October 1 or April 1 onward, the Pre-Semester Intensive German Course typically starts in an online format (via Zoom). After the official arrival date, the course usually transitions to an on-campus, in-person format at the respective course location.
Target Group
The course is aimed at exchange students of all programs as well as international students enrolled in English-taught degree programs. For degree-seeking students, the course can be an important component in preparing for the required proof of German language proficiency during the course of their studies.
