Welcome to MIDS, the Mathematical Institute for Machine Learning and Data Science. On this page you will find all the important information about starting your studies. To make it easier for you to get started, we offer you a mathematical preliminary course, an introductory session and other assistance as well as interesting events. We look forward to welcoming you to our institute soon.
At the beginning of October 2024, we will offer a one-week preliminary course for prospective data science students, in which we will recall some basic mathematical knowledge from school and introduce some new content that should enable to smoothly start with the first semester. The course is not mandatory, but we highly recommend participation. The first lecture is on October 7th at 10:15 a.m. in room NB-101. You can register for the preliminary course at KU.Campus.
In addition, one can get initial contacts with fellow students and get to know the Ingolstadt campus. The student council offers an entertaining and informative program for this.
On October 15th from 10-12 am in NB 201 we offer an introductory session to the Data Science program, in which we provide a lot of important and useful information about studying at the KU, the study program, etc. No registration is required for this event.
To help you transition into your study program here in Ingolstadt, each student is assigned an initial advisor among the professors of the institute who also hold the basic courses. They are available to answer questions about the Data Science program, academic careers, etc.
The KU International Office is available to answer many general questions. Here you will find competent advice on topics such as housing, health insurance, visas, finances, scholarships, career advice, etc.
If you need general guidance or specific assistance in the above-mentioned areas during you start your studies, simply contact the International Office by email at
The International Office also offers open Zoom consultation hours for advice. The next date is
September 30th (Monday) at 11.00 a.m.
