Postdocs

The post-doctoral phase consists of two stages: an early orientational phase in which the candidate is often still working on publishing their doctoral paper, and a later phase in which candidates define and actively pursue their career goals, for example, to gain a professorship or a senior position in research.

Whatever career path you choose, the main aim in this phase is generally to develop outstanding expertise in a second area of research. The second aim is to continue to establish yourself as an independent researcher in the scientific community, which should include obtaining third-party funding through your own efforts.

In addition, postdocs need to prepare for future managerial functions such as chair management, the training of young researchers or active participation in scientific communities.

Career Promotion and Counseling

In order to better be able to support young scientists when they are setting their personal career goals, we offer a comprehensive career counseling service and together with staff members from the Research Service Center, also support young scientists who are preparing their third-party funding applications.

Workshops and networking opportunities

Among the workshops offered by the Academic Career sub-section are also some on relevant topics for post-docs that give young scientists a chance to network as does our central information event for junior researchers. In addition, the Department of HR Development and Professional Training offers support in preparing for a management position in science.
