Dr. Peter Wendl - Scientific Project Manager

Dr. Peter Wendl studied theology in Freiburg i. Br. He completed a training as a single, couple and family therapist in Munich as well as a wholesale and foreign trade merchant. He earned his doctorate with a dissertation on the challenges of soldier families in the context of foreign missions in the tension between moral theology and pastoral psychology under Prof. Dr. Eberhard Schockenhoff in Freiburg i. Br.

Since 2002, Dr. Wendl has been the scientific project manager of the unlimited cooperation with the Catholic Military Bishop's Office for the German Armed Forces. To date, he has conducted more than 300 intensive events with soldiers and their relatives as well as caregivers. The focus of his practice initiatives are topics of couple and family therapy, especially divorce prevention, preparation and follow-up of foreign missions as well as the guidance of weekend relationships.

Dr. Wendl is a member and representative in various advisory bodies (e.g. "Netzwerk der Hilfe" - Federal Ministry of Defense) and in the expert committee "Familie-Bildung-Erziehung" (State Committee of Catholics in Bavaria). He has published numerous articles on the topics of partnership and family. Since 2017, he has also been helping to organize the annual conference of Military Chaplaincy with the German Bundestag's Commissioner for the Armed Forces.

Dr. Peter Wendl is currently leading the following projects at the ZFG:

  • Long-distance relationships, weekend relationships and foreign missions: Effects of mobility requirements on partnership, family and education
  • Resilience research and mental hygiene in the context of critical life events
  • Children's book series of the ZFG on questions of the soldier's life and the compatibility of family and service
  • Value orientations and attitudes of military chaplains (conducted by Peggy Puhl-Regler and Alexandra Ressel)
