Norbert Paulo holds the endowed chair for Philosophy and Ethics of Digitalization at KU Eichstätt-Ingolstadt and is Vice Chair (Dean of Studies) of the School of Transformation and Sustainability (STS). He is the founder of the Frankenstein Lab at the KU's Future Campus in Ingolstadt and co-founder of the philosophy blog praefaktisch.
Norbert Paulo received his doctorate from the University of Hamburg, where he previously completed a double degree (law and philosophy). He completed his habilitation at the University of Graz. Before joining KU, Norbert Paulo worked at LMU Munich, FU Berlin, the University of Graz, and the University of Salzburg. He was a fellow at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research at Bielefeld University and a visiting researcher at Georgetown, Oxford, and Yale Universities.
Norbert Paulo is co-PI of a research project on the ethics of self-driving cars at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich and PI of the DFG-funded scientific network Methods of Practical Ethics. He is also a liaison lecturer for the Heinrich Böll Foundation.
Norbert Paulo explores philosophical questions in the context of digitalization and artificial intelligence, particularly narratives and metaphors surrounding technology, as well as the social conditions and consequences of innovation. One focus is on the ethical design of digital transformation.
He is also interested in the methodology of moral philosophy, for example empirically informed ethics, but also moral psychology and experimental philosophy in general.
