Whether it's a room in a hall of residence, a shared flat or an apartment all for yourself – if you're coming to Eichstätt or Ingolstadt to study, you should make sure to tick the box for accommodation in due time!
Shortly before the start of the semester in spring and fall, it is particularly difficult to find free and reasonably priced accommodation. We therefore recommend that you start looking for accommodation in Eichstätt or Ingolstadt at least three months before you start and at least four months for internationals who come to study with us.
Finding accommodation tends to be somewhat easier in the smaller town of Eichstätt than in Ingolstadt. In both cases, however, it makes sense to look for accommodation as early as possible. It may also be an option for you to live in Eichstätt and commute to Ingolstadt for your courses. The costs for accommodation in Ingolstadt are around 20 % higher than in Eichstätt.
Many private rooms are advertised by the students who are moving out. It is therefore always worth taking a look at the offers on the notice boards around campus (Eichstätt: e.g. in the entrance area of the Main Building, Ingolstadt: Faculty Building).
Landlords can report their vacant rooms/apartments for Eichstätt and Ingolstadt directly to the KU:

Please bear in mind that the costs for an apartment are not just rent. We have listed the most important cost factors for you:
When it comes to electricity, heating and internet connection, it it advisable to compare offers from different providers!
The first month's rent and the deposit are due upon conclusion of the tenancy agreement. For international students, it is advisable to transfer two months' rent in advance to allow more time for setting up a current account in Germany. Please make sure to set up a SEPA direct debit mandate as soon as possible to avoid falling into arrears with your rental payments.
Sample calculation:
Monthly rent (€ 450) + deposit (2-3 months' rent)
€ 900 + € 1.350 = € 2.250

IMPORTANT NOTE: Admission to a degree course does not involve entitlement to a place in a hall of residence!
International students should please always contact the International Office:
The International Office has quotas for rooms and can issue a landlord's confirmation for you that explains your status. It is important for landlords to know that you have not yet been able to set up a current account without residing in Germany, that you do not have a credit report, but that you can still prove your liquidity with your visa and your admission to University.
It is important for the landlord that you can pay your rent on time and, above all, on a regular basis. Many landlords therefore request proof of employment and income. If your own income is not high enough, which is of course usually the case for students, most landlords will accept a rent guarantee from parents or relatives. The same applies to the deposit: Instead of paying the amount into a rental deposit account,
you can usually also provide a rent deposit guarantee from your parents.
Upon request, international students will receive a confirmation from the International Office explaining why these documents cannot be submitted.
As a landlord, you expect your tenants to provide a credit report and a current account or proof of income. Please note that international students can only set up a current account if they can provide proof of a tax ID and an address here in Germany. However, admission to the University is linked to a visa and corresponding proof of liquidity. Students must deposit € 1,000 per month that they will spend in Germany in a blocked account. Upon request, international students at the KU can provide you with a confirmation from the International Office explaining these special circumstances.
