Change of degree program or subject

If you would like to change your degree program or subject, please submit the application for changing the degree program, study subject or study profile using the contact form to the Student Office. When submitting the request, please use the category “Change of degree program/study subject/study profile”.

Changing your degree program or subject can take various forms:

  • Switching entirely to another degree program
  • Changing a subject (e.g. a major or minor subject, or a didactics subject within a teacher training program)
  • Changing a combination of majors in multi-major programs (e.g. an Interdisciplinary Bachelor's degree program)
  • Expansion of the degree program combination (e.g., with an additional subject in a teaching degree program)
  • Continuation of studies in a Master's degree program (only if all coursework and examinations for the Bachelor’s program have been fully completed).

In degree programs or subjects with limited admission, changing your degree program or major requires a prior application and admission. Please note the respective application deadlines.

Similarly, a change to degree programs or subjects that require an aptitude test for admission is only possible after passing the aptitude test.

An application for recognition of modules already completed may be submitted to the Board of Examiners of the new degree program if these modules are also required in the new program. Recognized modules are marked on the transcript of records.

When changing a subject or profile, the student is required to transfer all modules that have been completed and are also required in the new combination. Modules that can be used for the elective component of the new subject combination may be transferred at the student’s request.

In order to do so, the student must contact the Examinations Office via the contact form using the category “Change of degree program/subject/profile” and specify the modules that must be transferred as well as those to be transferred upon request.

Further detailed information and instructions can be found here in the information on changing degree programs.
