KU buses

For KU students, the KU Sozialwerk provides minibuses free of charge for the following travel purposes between Eichstätt and Ingolstadt: transportation to classes, official university events, student assemblies, and student representation on university committees and boards. The starting point and destination should be either the Eichstätt campus or the Ingolstadt campus.

Transportation allowance

For trips by public transport for the above purposes, 50 percent of the costs can be reimbursed upon request.

Semester ticket subsidy

KU students have the opportunity to purchase semester tickets at convenient prices for public transport in Eichstätt and Ingolstadt. The ticket must be reapplied for each semester.

Information about the subsidy and the KU buses is available from the Sozialwerk of the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt e.V.

Construction work in Ostenstraße, Eichstätt

Between September and the end of November 2025, Ostenstraße in Eichstätt will be completely closed for car and truck traffic between the turn-off to Kardinal-Preysing-Platz and the entrance to the Waisenhaus parking lot starting on September 1. Parking at the KU

Parking / Parking permit for Eichstätt

The KU provides parking spaces along the street “Am Sportplatz” (near the Main Library). Students can use these parking spaces with a semester parking permit. Parking authorization must be reapplied for each semester and costs a fee of 5 euros per semester.

Parking permits for the respective semester can be ordered on the platform of the Parking Space Management (PRM).

Students who already have an account on this platform can log in with their existing access data and order the new permit. Students who are not yet registered (e.g., first-semester students) must first register on this portal with their KU email address (“Create account”).

Important note: Students' PRM parking permits are only valid for KU parking spaces in the designated parking areas around the Main Library, but not for public (municipal) paid parking spaces (e.g. Waisenhaus parking lot).

Please note: From November 18, 2024, the approximately 400 parking spaces at the Volksfestplatz will be subject to a fee.

A day ticket costs €1.50; the maximum parking time is one week and costs €7.50.

There is no parking fee on public holidays and weekends.

The Volksfestplatz is a 10-minute walk from the KU campus (along the Altmühl river).

Parking in Ingolstadt

There are no parking spaces available, except in cases of disability, accident, or illness. In this case, a parking permit for the employee parking lot can be requested from the Ingolstadt Student Office (proof required).

The following paid parking options with discounts for students are available nearby:

All information about parking in Ingolstadt can be found here.

The Bavarian discounted public transport ticket for students will continue to be available from January 2025. The discount for students in Bavaria also remains the same at 20 euros. The discounted ticket will therefore cost 38 euros from January 2025. The discounted ticket is a full-value “Deutschlandticket” - only at a reduced price; it cannot be transferred to other users and can be used on local public transport throughout Germany.. Students of the KU and the Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI) can only purchase the discounted ticket via the online shop of the Verkehrsverbund Großraum Ingolstadt (VGI). The ticket subscription can be canceled monthly. The subscription is only valid for one semester. At the end of a semester, the Deutschlandticket must be ordered again for each new semester.

If you would like to (continue to) use the Deutschlandticket at the reduced price, please order it in the VGI online shop and provide proof of your enrollment as a student. This is done with the so-called "Shibboleth authentication", where you enter your KU user-ID and the corresponding password. After renewal of the subscription, the Deutschlandticket will then be valid until March 30, 2025, unless you cancel it before then. Below, you will find further information on the ordering process.

More information on the Deutschlandticket is available on the VGI website at:  https://www.invg.de//Deutschlandticket_students

Please note: The VGI online shop has changed its identification procedure for SEPA payments. When creating a new customer account or changing the means of payment, you must complete either a photo ID or a bank ID procedure.

If you have any questions regarding the ordering process, please contact the VGI Customer Service (+49 841 97 439 333 or deutschlandticket(at)vgi.de). The KU is not involved in the sale of the Deutschlandticket, the University only transmits confirmation via Shibboleth authentication that you are still enrolled with us as a student.

Further information on the ordering process for the Deutschlandticket:

  • Please install the VGI app on your smartphone and register.
  • Tickets can be purchased in the online shop at https://www.invg.de/Onlineshop_en
  • In the online shop, please open a new account if you do not already have one (button on the bottom of the page: “Hier neuen account erstellen”) It is important that you use the same e-mail address that you have entered in the VGI app. However, this does not have to be the KU e-mail address, you can also use your private e-mail address.
  • In settings → payment data Deutschlandticket trainees/students (Einstellungen → Bezahldaten Deutschlandticket Auszubildende/Studierende), you select your personal payment method (SEPA or credit card) and are then forwarded to the payment service provider LogPay for verification.
  • In your account, please then select “Neues Ticket buchen” on the right hand side and select "Deutschlandticket Studenten" and follow the next steps.
  • Proof that you are enrolled as a student at the KU is provided via a so-called "Shibboleth authentication", in which you enter your KU user-ID and the corresponding password.
  • After successfully completing the order process, the ticket will be displayed in your VGI app on the following day, 3.00 p.m. at the latest. Please note: In the app, the price is stated at 58 euros (as this is the regular price for the ticket), but you will only be charged the discounted price of 38 euros.
  • The Deutschlandticket is automatically extended every month until the end of the current semester. However, you can also cancel the ticket at an earlier date (respectively by the 10th of the month with effect from the end of the month).

The Deutschlandticket is valid nationwide on all public transportation in the transport associations and with all local transportation companies. It can be used in local transport throughout Germany, i.e. buses, streetcars, city trains, subway trains and suburban trains, as well as in regional trains and regional express trains in the 2nd class. The ticket is not valid for long-distance travel (ICE, IC, EC) or private operators (e.g. FlixTrain / FlixBus/Airport Express). Trainees and students will still be able to purchase this ticket in Bavaria at a reduced price.
