Mission Statement for Studies and Teaching

KU-Fahne

At the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt (KU), we are committed to offering our students excellent opportunities for academic qualification. Learning and teaching are firmly rooted in intensive research and the advancement of scientific knowledge. At the center is our understanding of education, which can be summarized by the four pillars that support the studies and teaching practice at the KU:

Discursive, interconnected, committed, tailored to the needs of the individual.

Studies and teaching at the KU are characterized by the scientific profile of the participating subjects. The KU offers both research- and application-oriented degree programs with a clear qualification profile. These enable students to acquire and expand on new skills, develop their competences further and thus open up corresponding professional fields. The undergraduate degree programs introduce students to research-based learning. Advanced study programs hone students’ ability for independent research and learning. We understand the further development of the range of courses at our University as a constant task. It is based on the scientific discourse of the involved disciplines, takes into account the changing qualification requirements, takes place in a resource-friendly manner and is supported by a process-oriented quality management.

Discursive education

Lecturers and students interactively shape the educational landscape. We maintain a high academic value in open, critical and reflective exchange. Based on their research expertise, our lecturers guide different learning processes that are methodically diverse, discursive and didactically competent. By adequately linking on-campus teaching, self-directed learning, and digital teaching-learning settings, lecturers support a study culture of academic freedom in shared responsibility.

In this way, students and their expertise are encouraged and challenged for the advancement of their own educational and qualification process. Learn more...

Interconnected education

The inter- and transdisciplinary development of reality is a defining characteristic of our understanding of science and education. Our campus culture at both locations in Eichstätt and Ingolstadt creates excellent conditions for interdisciplinary and collaborative discourse between the subject areas. It is characterized, among other things, by an efficient scientific infrastructure, by the spatial proximity of the subjects and institutions, the cooperation with educational partners in the region, and by the possibility of diverse personal encounters. In view of increasingly global developments in society, culture, politics, science and business, it is also our concern to promote an international study and campus culture. Learn more...

Committed education

The scientific-academic search for knowledge contributes to the formation of a responsible personality. Taking this further, for us at the KU, committed education also means taking up or anticipating social developments in research and teaching and discussing the resulting findings with society, business, politics and the church, and contributing to them in a fruitful way. Our focus is on the challenges and opportunities of diversity and inclusion as well as on a human-centered design of digitalization and the commitment to sustainability. Studies and teaching at the KU thus aim at a socio-culturally, ecologically and economically fair and sustainable development of society. Learn more...

Education tailored to the needs of the individual

Academic studies at the KU go far beyond simply acquiring knowledge, for it is only in the process of personal development that students can truly unfold their potential and skills to the fullest. The KU provides an ideal framework for this by offering an excellent staff-to-student ratio. At our University, every student with his or her individual characteristics and talents is seen and supported. This results in the ability to react to changing requirements in one's (professional) biography, to participate in the generation of knowledge in a discerning manner and to reflect critically on this process. Individuals educated in this way can shape their lives in a self-reliant and meaningful way, find their place in society through professionalism and help shape social, political and cultural life competently, creatively and responsibly on the basis of the values of a liberal democratic order.
