The Encouragement of Bartimaeus as part of the Lenten season

 

In his Lenten pastoral message this year, Bishop Jung of Würzburg has adopted the theme of the 2026 Catholic Day—“Have courage, get up, he is calling you!”—from the story of Bartimaeus (Mark 10:46–52) as the spiritual focus for the Lenten season.

In his Lenten pastoral message, he refers to the biblical method of Lectio Divina (spiritual reading of Scripture) applied to the story of Bartimaeus and the guidance on this method written by Prof. Dr. Marievonne Schöttner and Dr. Ursula Silber in the anthology “Have Courage, Get Up” for the 2026 Catholic Day.
