The Maximilian Bickhoff University Foundation celebrated its 40th anniversary on 15 November with a ceremony at the Summer Residence of the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt.
In her welcoming speech, University President Prof Dr Gabriele Gien thanked the Bickhoff Foundation for its continuous support, especially in the humanities and social sciences. Over the past four decades, the Foundation has funded more than 40 doctoral scholarships, 280 events such as excursions and workshops, 120 conferences and symposia, and several endowed chairs.
The central part of the ceremony was a panel discussion on "Religion and Civil Society - Tensions, Resonances, Opportunities", organised by the foundation's board members Prof. Dr. Dr. Ulrich Hemel, Prof. Dr. Ulrich Kropač and Stefan Hipp, with the participation of the Tübingen theologian Prof. Dr. Johanna Rahner, the sociologist of religion Prof. Dr. Detlef Pollack and the Bavarian Minister of the Interior Joachim Herrmann. The discussion was moderated by BR journalist Daniela Olivares.
