Fundamental theology is a relatively young theological discipline. Based on the tasks of apologetics, which has been a part of Christian theology since its beginnings, the discipline’s role is to account for fundamental religious and theological convictions before the forum of reason.
Today, fundamental theology has two main focuses in its demonstration of the rationality of the Christian faith: As a fundamental science of reason, fundamental theology aims to provide a rational explanation of the foundations of the Christian message and to assert the truth of the Christian faith in the world.
