Application process for Bachelor and Master Theses

The chair demands the following prerequisites for applications for the mentoring of theses: The mentoring of a bachelor thesis requires the successful completion of "Fundamentals of Controlling". The mentoring of a master thesis requiries the successful completion of "Cost Management" (or "Investment Controlling") and of a seminar at the chair.

In master theses, the chair expects an empirical (e.g. expert interviews, survey, case study research) or model-theoretical part additional to the review of the current literature.

Interested students are invited to submit their own suggested topics (suiting the research fields of the chair) and proof of the above-named modules to Prof. Dr. mult. Burger. After an initial meeting, the definition of the topic and the "go" of the chair they outline their plans in an exposé (for bachelor theses: 3 to 5 pages, master theses: 5 to 8 pages) on the basis of a review of the relevant literature. This exposé should contain a well-formed problem statement, the approach and outline of the work, the main sources of literature and a timetable. The exposé is a prerequisite for the acceptance of the mentoring.

Current research fields of the chair are in particular:

  • Corporate insolvency
  • Corporate restructuring
  • Current problems of modern controlling
