Prof. İrem Güçeri from the from the Blavatnik School of Government, Oxford University is the keynote speaker of the WFI Summer School 2022 and will talk about „Government Policies for Business “. She is currently working as an Associate Professor at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. Before her current position, Irem was a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow and Research Fellow at the Centre for Business Taxation at Saïd Business School, and a Junior Research Fellow at St.Peter's College. She received her MPhil and DPhil degrees in Economics from Oxford University, after having obtained a BA in Economics from Koc University and an MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics. Her current research focuses on policy evaluation, taxation, productivity, R&D and innovation. She is co-course leader for Finance (Undergraduate) and the elective Government Policies for Business (MBA). Prior to her time at Oxford, she was working at the World Bank as part of the Europe and Central Asia region, Financial and Private Sector Development unit as an economist on topics related to small and medium-sized enterprises. Her consulting work includes government and World Bank projects in middle income countries. During her studies, Irem received various prizes and scholarships, including the British Council Chevening Scholarship and the Centre for Business Taxation Doctoral Scholarship while at Oxford, Koç University Merit Scholarship, Siemens Excellence Award and high honors during her earlier studies at Koç University.

Thomas Sattelberger is a German top manager and politician (FDP).  After holding Managing Board positions at Continental AG and Lufthansa Passage, he was the Chief HR Officer of Deutsche Telekom from 2007 to 2012. Sattelberger made a name for himself as a proponent of diversity management; he introduced the 30-percent quota for women in management positions. In 2017, he has been elected as a member of the German Bundestag for the Liberal Party (FDP). He was the spokesperson of the FDP Parliamentary Group for innovation, education and research from 2017-2021. Since December 2021, he is the Parliamentary State Secretary to the German Federal Minister of Education and Research.

Summer School participants will enjoy a trip to one of the most fascinating spots in Germany: Neuschwanstein Castle. This famous castle was the model for the Cinderella Castle in Disney’s beloved movie and theme park. It was built by Ludwig II, the Fairy-tale King, and it is nestled in a picturesque Alpine panorama. Walking through the halls as part of a guided tour, we will get an impression of the splendor of European kings in former times.

We will also have lunch together and visit the Pilgrimage Church of Wies (Wieskirche), a rococo church. The Wieskirche was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1983. There, we will also enjoy a marvellous view of the mountains, especially the Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain.
