Sara Fascione, Dialogical Cultures Junior Fellow

Dr. Sara Fascione (Universität Neapel) war von Mai bis Juli 2021 als Research Fellow am Forschungskolleg Dialogkulturen zu Gast. Sie ist Post-Doc Researcher für lateinische Literatur an der Universität Neapel und befasst sich in ihrer Forschung mit der Analyse von spätantiken Briefsammlungen. In ihrem aktuellen Forschungsprojekt untersucht Dr. Fascione die Rezeption Frontos in Briefen des Symmachus.

Ideology of power and reception of Fronto in Symmachus’ Letters

The project offers the first comprehensive study on the relationship between Fronto’s and Symmachus’ letter collection. By analysing textual allusions and thematic similarities, the research aims at examining how the reception of Fronto influences Symmachus’ representation of the imperial power. The project outcomes will shed further light on the strategies of self-representation and the dialogical approach to the past in late antique aristocratic culture; furthermore, the investigation on the circulation of Fronto’s work in late will improve our philological understanding of his text.
