With regard to knowledge transfer, the KU is guided by the central principle of being an "engaged university” that places its academic resources at the service of the common good and fosters continuous and creative exchange between academia and society.

The KU strives to be a recognized partner for high-quality continuing education and professional development programs in the field of education for sustainable development, both among the general public and within businesses and local communities. The KU has made it its mission to build bridges between science and society by providing, through its own research activities, the knowledge necessary for shaping sustainable development, while simultaneously incorporating insights and questions from the non-academic environment into its research and teaching practice.
