‘Eduroam’ is a cross-university network project that allows secure Wi-Fi access not only at the KU, but also at many different educational locations after an initial one-time setup. Before you log on to eduroam for the first time, you need to download and install the necessary certificates. In order to connect to Wi-Fi, you will need a KU user ID.
The actual KUEI Wi-Fi is not subject to any access restrictions, but you cannot access the Internet without an running VPN client. To use the KUEI Wi-FI with access to the Internet, you have to install and set up OpenVPN (or Tunnelblick for macOS users) on your device once.
If you need Wi-Fi access or access to the Internet and do not have a KU user ID, you can use the @BayernWLAN that is provided by the Free State of Bavaria. However, the @BayernWLAN is not directly provided by the KU.
The guest Wi-Fi network ‘Gast-KUEI’ is only available at special occasions (e.g. a conference) and must be activated separately by the KU Computer Center.
