I am very grateful that I was allowed to participate in the coaching program. It was good to be able to talk about various topics with an independent third person. It helped me a lot in my personal decision-making. I also thought it was great that the coaching was spread over a period of several months, as the issues also changed over time. The coaching covered a wide variety of content-related issues and I felt well advised at all times. I would recommend this offer at any time and would therefore like to thank you once again!

Coaching can be understood as a process-oriented consulting format. The coach takes responsibility for the process, the coachee for the content and the goals of the coaching. In this respect, coaching is "counseling without advice" (Sonja Radatz), encourages self-reflection and offers the opportunity to work on current challenges in a professional setting.

The target group of the coaching program at the KU are female doctoral candidates in an advanced phase of their doctorate as well as post-doctoral candidates.

What are the occasions for coaching?

  • Reflection on one's own career goal, development of strategies for career planning
  • Self-image and role as a researcher
  • Feeling of insecurity and being at the mercy of the precarious employment situation
  • Professional reorientation (search for alternative career paths)
  • Dealing with stress or conflicts at work
  • Assumption of management responsibility
  • Work-life balance

For admission to the coaching program, an application in the form of a letter of motivation (available only in German) and a curriculum vitae is required. Both should be sent to the KU Women and Equal Opportunity Officer (uni-frauenbeauftragte(at)ku.de). After an interview between the applicant, the Women and Equal Opportunity Officer and Human Resources Development, a decision will be made regarding acceptance into the program.

After acceptance into the coaching program, participants are given the opportunity to take part in a maximum of five free coaching sessions (90 minutes each). The coaches are selected by the program coordinator. In addition, participants are offered the opportunity to take part in a moderated collegial case consultation (group coaching). For this purpose, at least three individual coaching sessions should have been attended.

The next application deadline will end October 31, 2024.
