Faculty programs

The faculty program is open to students of various subjects at the KU. The study places are at universities in Switzerland or at universities outside Europe. The study places are linked to the respective subject. You can study at a university with which your subject has an agreement.

  • At the Eichstätt Campus there are exchange opportunities for students of journalism and sociology in Switzerland.
  • At the Ingolstadt Campus, there are exchange opportunities for WFI students in China, India, Taiwan and Switzerland.

You can see which universities are suitable for you under "General Information - Partner Universities".

General information

Meaning of faculty programs

The faculty program means the following:

  • The exchange takes place through an agreement of your field of study at a partner university.
  • Due to the agreement you do not pay tuition at the partner university. However, other fees may apply.
  • You are still enrolled at KU during the semester abroad and must also pay the semester fee at KU.
  • Your achievements from abroad can be credited via a learning agreement. More information can be found under "Academic Recognition". Bachelor students must successfully complete at least 20 ECTS at the host university, Master students must successfully complete at least 15 ECTS at the host university. The proof is provided by the Transcript of Records, which you will receive from the host university.

  • You register in the portal and upload all application documents within the application deadline. Applications received after the deadline and applications that are not complete by the deadline will be excluded from the process.
  • The selection and distribution of study places is carried out by the International Office. The following criteria will be taken into account:

  • The application must be formally in order.
  • Matching of subject of study and exchange agreement
  • Average grade of the applicant at the time of application
    • Bachelor students can apply from the 3rd semester onwards. The grade shown on the Transcript of Records at the time of application counts. Bachelor students in the third semester must have achieved at least 50 ECTS in their studies by then. Otherwise an application is not possible. Bachelor students in a higher semester must be able to prove an average of 25 ECTS per semester.
    • Master students can apply from the 1st semester. The grade of your Bachelor degree always counts; also for Master students in a higher semester.
  • Language skills
  • Optional: Proof of involvement in AK International or ESN.

Language requirements

General information

General Information
  • Evidence of the language of study must always be provided. Example: If you want to study in Italy in English, you must prove sufficient knowledge of English. If you want to study in Italy in Italian, you must prove sufficient knowledge of Italian. Usually, proof of at least B2 is sufficient at the time of application. Some universities require proof of C1.
  • Proof of language proficiency must not be older than two years at the time of application.
  • Proof is possible via the Abitur (only for BA students) as well as other standardized test procedures (such as TOEFL, Cambridge Certificate, IELTS, etc.).
  • If you are unsure whether your language certificate is valid, please contact outgoing(at)ku.de
Proof of language proficiency: English

You need a proof of English language skills on level at least B2.

Attention: Some universities also require proof of TOEFL or English proficiency at C1 level.

Attention: Proof of language proficiency via the Abitur

Bachelor students can obtain proof of language proficiency for level B2 based on their Abitur. This is possible for the languages English, French, Spanish and Italian, if all conditions are fulfilled and confirmed by the Abitur certificate:

  • The language was your 1st, 2nd or 3rd foreign language at the Gymnasium, and
  • you have continued the language up to the Abitur and have taken an examination (oral or written) in it, and
  • you have completed the language in the Abitur examination with at least the grade "still good" = 10 points.
  • Not sufficient is if you have learned the language in question as a late starting language (from the 10th grade).
  • If all these conditions are met, the Abitur certificate counts as proof of a language certificate for B2. However, it is important to note that the information on the Abitur certificate, especially if it indicates a language level of B2+/C1, is only indicative. These do not necessarily reflect the academic language level required for a C1 certificate.

  • Students who wish to prove their knowledge at C1 level must therefore take an official language test. Recommended tests for this are the TOEFL iBT or the Academic IELTS. These tests are internationally recognized and provide a precise and reliable assessment of your language skills at an academic level.
