Eichstätter Geographisches Kolloquium | WiSe 2026/27
The Department of Geography at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt proudly announces this year’s Eichstätter Geographisches Kolloquium, titled ‘Alps, Alpinism, and Alpine Literature as Projections of Society and Science’.
In contemporary media-driven societies, the Alps constitute a multifaceted space of projection and imagination. In literature, they have shifted from landscapes of threat and sublimity in Romanticism to places of longing shaped by nature discourse and tourism, and more recently to endangered ecosystems at the center of climate narratives and contemporary fiction. Closely intertwined with these representations are questions concerning the preservation and sustainable development of the Alps as both cultural and natural environments. The colloquium aims to explore selected facets of this complexity and to foster dialogue between contemporary scholarly, literary, and cultural perspectives.
