The winter lecture series, which has been in existence at the KU since 2008, is an expression of the work of ZILAS for the interdisciplinary pooling of Latin America research. Each year, the series deals with an overarching topic with relevance for current social processes in Latin America, which is being approached from the perspectives of various disciplines. It is also the goal of the lecture series to gain insights into the perspectives and methods of disciplines that do not have a special profile in Latin American research at the KU. In recent years, ZILAS has successfully invited guest scholars who have enriched the department of Latin American Studies in Eichstätt with ethnological, natural science and economic contributions.

Date and Time: Wednesday, October 16, 2024, 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Venue: Room DP8-103, Domplatz 8, Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt
Language: The lecture will be held in English.

Event Overview:
In recent years, Argentina has witnessed significant political shifts, including the rise of far-right movements. In this lecture, Dr. Nicolás Dvoskin, an expert in political economy and social movements from Argentina, will analyze the contradictions and limitations of Argentina's post-neoliberal project under Kirchnerism and its relationship to the emergence of far-right ideologies.
Dr. Dvoskin's lecture will focus on key issues such as the construction of political scapegoats, the anti-feminist backlash, the challenges faced by progressive governments, and the role of new communication strategies in mobilizing far-right movements.
This event is part of the "Lateinamerika in Bewegung" series, which explores critical issues facing Latin American societies today. We encourage students, researchers, and members of the public interested in Latin American politics, sociology, and history to attend this engaging session.
We look forward to your participation!
The Latin American movie days have been held in cooperation with the Film Studio in the Altes Stadttheater since 2010. The "Cine Latino" brings new movies from and about Latin America to Eichstätt and not only wants to address students, but especially also the citizens of Eichstätt. On the occasion of the movie days, works that have been compiled by students and lecturers of the ZILAS are presented and paint a picture of the diverse and contrasting region. Visitors can enjoy a potpourri of feature films, animation films and documentaries.
