Aims and Mission

"Dialogical Cultures"

In accordance with Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt’s mission statement and academic profile, the Research School is open to all fields and disciplines in the social and cultural sciences and the humanities. The term “Dialogical Cultures” refers to a shared scholarly interest in communicative and critical exchange from an interdisciplinary framework that pivots on three approaches to “Dialogical Cultures”:

1. Scholars from different fields are encouraged to pursue a decidedly broad range of topics. The only thematic prerequisite is the study of a respective research subject that considers the Research School's interest in the critical study of dialogue in its conflictual and communicative scenarios. “Dialogical Cultures” of both past and the present shall be viewed through the lens of interdisciplinary discussion and studied with regard to what may facilitate and preserve them, alter them, or condemn them to failure.

2. “Dialogical Cultures” further describes a lively culture of discussion to which members of the Research School have committed themselves. It is under this premise that the Research School "Dialogical Cultures" supports applications for funding from public or private institutions. The members are requested to demonstrate their capability to follow up on and encourage open and critical interdisciplinary discussions among peers.

3. The members of the Research School broaden their scholarly scope and expertise beyond their own fields, considering this expansion the starting point for their scholarly work and public discussion. They share the belief that exemplary research and scholarly excellence are intertwined with dialogue that both the academy and society profit from. At the same time, it remains crucial for the social and cultural sciences to critically reflect on this process.

Fellowship Program and Support

In its first period, on a regular basis, the Research School grants both internal and external fellowships for the duration of up to four months. Senior fellowships aim to support established scholars holding a professorship or equivalent. Junior Fellowships are awarded to scholars pursuing post-doc or habilitation projects. In its second period, since 2023, the research School support application group in prepartion of a new application to external funds, especially for the organization of workshops, other meetings and the invitation of guest speaker and Fellows.

Fellowship decisions are made by the general members meeting in cooperation with an external advisory board. The members of the Research School "Dialogical Cultures" will be provided with additional support for projects conducted through the Research School.
