Our positions

The Center for Flight and Migration (ZFM) is an interdisciplinary institution for research and education at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. It deals with global and regional migration processes as a phenomenon that has become the norm within our society with the aim to contribute to a sustainable, just, responsible and solidary society.

Researchers from various disciplines of both the humanities and social sciences work together at the ZFM to expand scientific knowledge about the diverse and complex issues of flight and migration research and to convey this knowledge in the form of educational opportunities. The ZFM aims at the academic exchange with other scientists and at the dialogue with local and national actors of civil society and politics.

The portfolio of the ZFM includes various research projects and educational formats. The research profile is divided into three fields: civic engagement, values and publicity in the migration society and causes and effects of the phenomenon of flight. These areas reflect both the regional and the (inter-)national orientation of the ZFM within their research perspectives.

In the context of transfer, the ZFM considers its task to make research results accessible to a broad public. The educational offers range from workshops, online courses and international summer schools to counselling for prospective students with flight experience and the master's program "Flight, Migration, Society" developed at the ZFM.

The ZFM's self-image is based on the following premises:

  •  Interdisciplinary cooperation including different methodical and theoretical approaches
  •  academic (further) education and qualification
  •  close interlinking of research activities and (further) education offers for the field of action of flight and migration
  •  establishment of a networking platform for flight and migration researchers at Bavarian, national and international levels and for the dialogue with practitioners

Our Logo

[Translate to Englisch:] Logo ZFM

The ZFM logo shows a stylized compass or compass rose.
It stands for the path that refugees must take, both literally and figuratively: On the one hand, they have to give up their lives at home and start a new, uncertain future. On the other hand, this path is not yet finished when their escape is successful: What is the next step? Where can I find help? In both cases, the compass helps to orientate oneself and thus also stands for the ZFM, which in research and teaching is dedicated to topics of origin, ways, arrival and future and supports refugees with counselling offers for their reorientation.
