Eichstätt offers a wide range of affordable housing options:

  • Student residences: Well-equipped rooms in subsidized halls of residence are available from € 250 per month. Some of these are located in the immediate vicinity of the campus and are a popular choice for students.
  • Private accommodation: There are also a large number of private shared flats. Rents vary depending on location and facilities, but are often lower than in larger university cities. Rents in private halls of residence and on the free housing market in Eichstätt start at around € 300 per month, depending on location and facilities.

The cost of living in Eichstätt is significantly lower than in larger cities such as Munich. Students should calculate total monthly costs of between € 950 and € 1,100 for rent, food, health insurance, mobility and leisure activities.

Canoeing

The Altmühltal natural park is ideal for going hiking, cycling and climbing. Canoeing on the Altmühl river is particularly popular. But the well-signposted cycle routes of the Altmühltal and numerous hiking trails around Eichstätt also offer the opportunity to experience the unique nature up close.

The University’s sports offer includes numerous courses and team sports – from yoga to soccer, there is something for everyone. This is also a great opportunity to make contacts with fellow students and quickly settle into university life.

Cultural offer and entertainment

Hofgartenfest

Eichstätt's cultural scene is diverse, lively and always good for a surprise. Creative minds, impressive event rooms in a historical setting and many opportunities to get involved ensure a varied program of events. But there are also many celebrations and festivals throughout the year that invite you to celebrate together and meet new people:

  • Eichstätt Altstadtfest (Old Town Festival): In summer, the historic old town is transformed into a stage with live music, regional specialties and arts and crafts booths.
  • Eichstätt Volksfest (fair): The traditional “Volksfest” in fall offers fairground rides, Bavarian music and culinary delights.
  • Open-Air Cinema: During the summer months, there are various open-air film screenings in Eichstätt, a special experience in a relaxed atmosphere.
  • Advent market on cathedral square: The Christmas market enchants visitors during the Advent season with its festive atmosphere, regional arts and crafts and mulled wine.
  • Folk music festival "mittendrin": Every other year, a colorful folk music program is played in the squares, streets and restaurants in Eichstätt's city center, as well as in the Eichstätt Residenz and on the seminar meadow.
  • “Lichternacht” (night of lights) in Eichstätt: In the fall, the old town is atmospherically illuminated, accompanied by street artists and culinary offerings.

Mobility and accessibility

Eichstätt is a small town where many destinations are in walking or cycling distance. Well-developed public transportation is available for longer distances.

Regional trains and buses: There are regular connections from Eichstätt to Ingolstadt, Munich and Nuremberg, making Eichstätt a central location in the middle of Bavaria.

Environmentally friendly mobility: Bicycle rental stations and an excellent pedestrian infrastructure promote sustainable transportation.
